Psychiatry, psychotherapy, and neurosciences
Diversity distinguishes the Swiss Archives of Neurology, Psychiatry and Psychotherapy from similar scientific journals. The journal covers psychiatry, psychotherapy, neurology and neurosciences - the full breadth of a pluralistic specialist area.
From the beginning the journal served as the organ for scientific exchange in its field in Switzerland and was thus an important channel of communication for psychiatrists and neurologists.
The SANP is the official journal of the "Schweizerische Vereinigung Psychiatrischer Chefärztinnen und Chefärzte", the Swiss Society of Social Psychiatry, the Swiss Society of Addiction Medicine, the Collège Romand de Médecine de l’Addiction and the Swiss Society for Sports Psychiatry and Psychotherapy.
SANP adheres to the “Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing”. The quality of the publications is guaranteed by a consistent policy of rigorous single-blind peer review.
EMH Swiss Medical Publishers Ltd. guarantees the editorial independence of the journal. The editors have total responsibility, authority, and accountability for the scientific content of the Swiss Archives of Neurology, Psychiatry and Psychotherapy. In order to maintain editorial independence, the principles formulated by the World Association of Medical Editors ("The Relationship Between Journal Editors-in-Chief and Owners") are observed.

History
The current journal is a continuation of the Swiss Archives of Neurology and Psychiatry, a publication rich in tradition and reputation, which was founded in 1917 by the famous neurologist and psychiatrist C. von Monakow.
It was a platform for uncensored publishing during the Second World War and has a long tradition of publishing the work of outstanding scientists, including a Nobel Prize winner.
In the early years the journal was edited by Professor Dr C. von Monakow, Professor Dr P. Dubois, Professor Dr R. Weber, Dr B. Manzoni and Professor Dr H. W. Maier, in collaboration with the leading academic authorities of the time in the fields of psychiatry and neurology, including Professor E. Bleuler.

Sources of revenue
Swiss Archives of Neurology, Psychiatry and Psychotherapy accepts advertisements to finance the open access publication without page charges and the production of the printed edition. Other sources of income are subscriptions of the print version and the sale of reprints, rights, and royalties.
Serious magazines, however, are not published for the sake of earning advertising revenue, but sell advertising for the sake of being published. This underlying principle steers all activities at Swiss Medical Publishers EMH. Our editing and marketing teams are strictly divided up, fully preventing the content of our magazines from becoming mired in business-related interests.
EMH Swiss Medical Publishers Ltd. guarantees the editorial independence of the journal. Advertisements are not related in any way to editorial decisions.
EMH ensures that the advertising opportunities offered comply with the provisions of the Swiss Federal Act on Medicinal Products and Medical Devices, the Regulation on the Advertising of Medicinal Products and the guidelines of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences. An internal guideline prepared by the executive board complements the legal framework and provides additional guidelines for the selection of advertisers in EMH products. In case of doubt, a commission consisting of the sales team and editorial staff decides on the acceptance or rejection of advertisements. Advertisements and PR articles are clearly marked and designed differently from the editorial text.
